Be scared, be very scared!

This is how I feel when I enter the kitchen.  I’m not a cooker, a baker, or lover of making food.  I just don’t have that gift of whipping up something yummy.  If you come to my house for dinner you will most likely meet my dear friend the pizza delivery guy.  I make my husband and kids nervous when they see me pulling out bowls and cracking eggs.  It could be those couple of small fires that I have started.  Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  I do know how to make pumpkin muffins!  These are the easiest and best tasting things and they make your house smell like fall.

pumpkin muffins

Brace yourself… here for the first time ever I will be sharing a recipe!!!  To makes delicious pumpkin muffins just buy these two ingredients.  Make the cake according to the box directions and add that pumpkin can stuff.  There you have it.  Feel free to print out these directions!

pumpkins muffins

Look at me!!!!  I’m mixing!!!  I just bought my first mixer thing two years ago.  Yes I am almost 40.  Any who I went to try it out but it didn’t work.  I was so mad that of all the mixers, I picked the one that didn’t work.  At that moment my husband walked into the kitchen and nervously asked what I was up to.  I told him I was going to have to take my new mixer back because it didn’t work.  He then proceeded to plug it in and laugh at me hysterically.

So when this happens, when I see crumbs from something I cooked up, it’s a good thing.  A very good thing!!!

Tea Holder

While we’re chatting kitchen stuff, here is my favorite thing in my kitchen.  I found this at Goodwill for $2.99, and it has become my pretend Keurig!  I want a Keurig so very very bad but as you know they are super expensive and I already have a coffee maker.  Do I really need both?  I’m all about simplifying these days and not spending money, but Ohhhhhh to have a Keurig and to be able to whip up a cup of coffee or cup of tea in an instant sounds like a dream.

tea holder

I loveeeeeee drinking tea in the fall and winter.  This is my fancy little tea station.  This simple little corner in my kitchen makes me feel like I’m on vacation.

tea mugs

I splurged on a couple of coffee cup from Pier One. Somehow drinking out of this pretty mug makes me so happy and makes my tea taste better.

tea kettle

I usually just make my tea in the microwave but when I’m feeling fancy I use my tea kettle.  Howeverrrrr……..most of the time I forget that I have turned it on and then when it screams that it’s ready, it scares me to death and I scream along with it.

owl trays

When I’m enjoying my tea I have a little snack on these owl plates that I found at Value Village Thrift for 12.99.  It’s the little things that make me happy.

So for all of you Keurig owners out there… Is it worth it!?  Do you love your Keurig!?  Should I sell an organ and buy one or just save my money and enjoy my regular old coffee pot and tea station?????

smiling over here!! and yes … LOVE my keurig! i’m a single momma and not a *huge* coffee drinker … like i reheat my one cup 3 times before drinking the mug-full. but i love i can do a decaf quickly in the afternoon, or hot chocolate, or even … tea!! :)

which organ you think’ll go first? :)

    • angela October 11, 2012 at 2:37 pm #

      Hey Tracie!!
Hmmmmm see I drink like a pot of coffee in the morning so i don’t think a Keurig would be good for that. I was just thinking in the afternoon it would be so nice to make a cup of decaf. I don’t want to be a coffee drinker all day and that might be what happens if i buy one!hahaha How about that shark!! Can you believe that!?!? I have been coming here for years and never seen anything like it! I almost had a heart attack when I walked up on it! I love IOP!!

My Dad gave me his Keurig, almost brand new, because he never used it. Otherwise, I would not purchase one. Hate to tell you but I love it for coffee and hot cocoa. But, I like the whole process of preparing tea, so have not used it for tea. There’s something about the whispering, steaming kettle, the pouring and the steeping that just seems to make the tea taste better.
Your tea caddy is wonderful. Hard to believe such a gem ended up at Goodwill.

    • angela October 11, 2012 at 2:34 pm #

Ohhhhhhhhhh hot cocoa!!! I didn’t think about making that!!! Awesome that your dad gave you his! Maybe I will find one at a yard sale!
      lots of love

I have a keurig in my office. It’s……ok. I’m really not so much a fan of the coffee but it makes an excellent cup of tea. The little packets are expensive. Would I buy it again…probably not.

I’m kind of a fan of our blog. I became addicted when I saw that you love Knoxville! I live in Knoxville and LOVE Bliss home. I plan to buy a mason jar print after seeing it on your blog.

    • angela October 11, 2012 at 2:33 pm #

Hi Ginger!!! Oh you will have to send me a photo of the mason jar you buy! I am still kicking myself for not buying one! Just have to make another trip to Knoxville! Go Vols!

we’re on our second keurig, first one lasted almost 3 years. For us it works because we two like very different coffee, Huntley very strong, me not so much, and what I think is the acid that builds in anything over 5 minutes past fresh-brewed just destroys my stomach. We were brewing two pots every morning to suit each of us, throwing away most of both. If you do it, you MUST order the k-cups auto-ship from Amazon it’s way way way cheaper and it shows up at your door on a regular basis, we are never never out of coffee (because that’s a tragedy we can’t survive). I share your confidence/competence in the kitchen, friend, but I may just have to try those muffins. YUM!!!

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:05 am #

Hahaha! I figured you to be the master chef!!! I think I have decided against the keurig. I think it just sounds to expensive.
      hope to see you soon!

I love your tea caddy! We purchased a Keurig last Christmas as a family gift. While we do use it almost every day in the fall and winter, I don’t know if I would buy another one. We do love it, but it is really something we could have lived without. We use it for coffee, tea and hot chocolate. My requirement for buying the K-cups is they have to be under 50 cents per cup (usually I pay more like 15-40 cents per K-cup) because they can get pricey. We bought ours from Kohl’s (online) for about $80, free shipping and free K-cups.

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:06 am #

      Ok Michele
You nailed it on the head. It is something I could live without. I think you just made my mind up for me.
Did not know you could buy them at Kohl’s!!!
      lots of love

We got our keurig as a gift and love it because my husband makes his coffee at 5:30 and by 6:45, the pot tastes pretty nasty for my first cup.If you use it for a cup in the morning and one at night, it doesn’t get too crazy expensive. I also buy in bulk at BJ warehouse- I am sure Cosco has it too. Also, if it is on sale at Kohl’s and you get a 30% off coupon, it works out to about .60 a cup. I won’t pay more than that so I shop around. It is kind of a luxury item, but I am glad we have it!

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:08 am #

      Hi Melissa
I drink like a pot of coffee in the morning so I would go through way to many pods I think. This is sounding like more of a hassel! hahahah!
      lots of love

  7. Pat October 11, 2012 at 11:13 pm #

So funny about your cooking skills! :) I have a Keurig and yes, I love it! I bought mine via QVC and the flex pay ~ worked out beautifully for me as I’m retired and on a fixed income. A ton of coffee & tea packets come with it and you can find sales on the K-cups. Averages about the same as regular coffee/tea. Oh, and there’s an adaptor that you can use your own coffee and tea bags ~ almost forgot that! QVC puts them on sale and offers the flex pay option pretty often. Sign up for an email reminder from them!

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:09 am #

      Thanks Pat!
I will have to remember that if I change my mind. I think everyone has scared me off with the expense of the pods!!!

  8. Shelley Meyers October 12, 2012 at 2:14 am #

The k-cup cost alot, so like if you want to drink three cups of coffee thats like 3 k-cups!! I now can order from my husband’s job so it is cheaper, however, I do not feel it is as great as every one told me????

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:10 am #

      Hi Shelley
Ok I have officially decided that the pod/kcups expense has scared me off. I just kept thinking about the cost of the keurig itself but never even took into consideration the cost of the pods!!

  9. reeve October 12, 2012 at 3:58 am #

    yay for recipes!!!

I am soooo jealous of your bread box. I’ve been looking for one like that for a long time. And the mug – LOVE!!

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:11 am #

I thought about you when I bought that owl mug. I am now a sucker for pretty mugs. No more collectionsssssssssssssssssss.
      love you

  10. Cindy October 12, 2012 at 12:34 pm #

The Keurig is so worth it!! I buy my k-cups with coupons at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It is amazing. You can buy it from QVC and if you are lucky can find a deal where the total cost is spread out over 5 months.

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:12 am #

ohhhhhhh Cindy I just made up my mind against it and now you are pulling me again to the keurig side! hahahaha! decisions, decisions!!

  11. Kim October 12, 2012 at 1:01 pm #

I couldn’t see paying full price for a Keurig either. My solution was to ask for Kohls gift cards from the family members that only give gift cards. Then I used some Kohls cash and gift cards to pay for it. Worked out great! I love my Keurig, for the same reason as another commentor, my husband and I do not like the same type of coffee and my kids love tea and hot chocolate, so it has been great at our house!

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:13 am #

Your kids love tea!?!?!? That is awesome!!! I am always trying to get my kids to try it and they won’t! That’s ok, more tea for me. Hahahaha! That could be a tshirt! More tea for me.

  12. Penelope October 12, 2012 at 2:29 pm #

Love your little tea station. We have something similar with the tea, the cups, the pots all together w/ the coffee maker (drip). Unfortunately the stove is across the room, sigh. I know, first world problem!
I’m thinking no on the Keurig thingees…the inserts are crazy expensive and my Mr. Coffee is fine.

  13. Jamie October 12, 2012 at 2:42 pm #

I love, love, love your owl plates. So adorable. We have a Keurig and I am not in love with it. The pods are very expensive and for my husband he has to use two pods at a time to make his coffee strong enough. I would say if you only drink one cup a day and don’t need or like your coffee very strong then it is worth it just for the convenience factor. If you do end up getting one please keep your old coffee maker. We made the mistake of giving ours away and when we had company over went through a whole box of pods!

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:15 am #

      Hi Jamie!
I love my owl plates too!!! I almost had a heart attack when I saw them. They reminded me of some I had seen at Anthropologie!!!
      lots of love

  14. Rebecca October 12, 2012 at 5:40 pm #

Angela, I know you’re in NC but if you have a meijers there they are running a promotion that would make a keurig very cheap. I don’t know all the details but another blog that I watch just had the info a couple days ago. The blog is Nester had a thing on a while ago about making a coffee station and I was just thinking I need to do that. I love your little cubby thing too.

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:18 am #

Thanks Rebecca!!! I think I have finally decided against it. Too expensive for all the pods, plus I am trying to simplify my life and all this pod talk makes my head spin! I would never be one to go out and try to find the cheapest pods, so I know I would end up buying the most expensive ones. I think my little tea station and coffee pot are just going to have to do!

  15. Audra October 12, 2012 at 7:33 pm #

You simply make me smile. :) And love the tea station. I’m more of a coffee drinker myself . . . don’t have a keurig, but it doesn’t sound like a “safe” thing for me to have if I want to be able to sleep at night. :) I mean, coffee so easy? That’d be a little too dangerous for me! :) We have a small coffee station ourselves. Right now it looks like I need to go to rehab because our favorite brand of coffee was BOGO at Publix, so now I have a cabinetful. :)

    • angela October 13, 2012 at 11:20 am #

I totallllllllllllllllllllllllly agree. I was worried about how much I would start to drink if I had one and it being so easy to make! I drink alot of water which makes me feel so good, but if I had that thing in my kitchen I think I would turn into a coffee freak!
      lots of love

  16. Rebecca October 13, 2012 at 6:20 pm #

Angela I couldn’t agree more with your comment. i thought about buying one but then it’s one more thing…. I just treat myself with flavored coffees. I got some great coupons recently and paired that with a b1g1 free so I am well stocked. I like you am trying to simply not complicate with pods, or doo dads or whatever. Give me a simple cup from a simple pot and I am happy :0)

  17. dawn paton October 14, 2012 at 1:48 pm #

BUT did you see the $50 rebate on keurig in the paper today?? someone is monitoring your ‘book. Made your muffins, managed to screw them up! took ’em out too soon, baking again now ; / ate one half raw, though-YUM!

  18. Carolyn Cox October 15, 2012 at 11:05 pm #

I just recently found something that you might be interested in. It is Folgers coffee singles. It comes in bags
like tea. You can make one cup at a time. I got the decaf ones and I think it is really good coffee.

    • angela October 16, 2012 at 12:04 am #

Oh my goshhhhhhhhhhhhh! Totally buying some! Thanks so much for sharing, that is so perfect!!!!
p.s. Can you tell I’m excited!?!?

  19. brittney October 17, 2012 at 7:22 pm #

ive used the keurig at hotels (hotels were also the motivation to get a belgum waffle maker mmm) anyways im only like a 1 cup of coffee a day girl but i want one anyways ( maybe Christmas) or (maybe Ill spend my Miche Bag Commission check on one) but my husband is a hot chocolate/some hot tea person (no coffee for him) and since we have 4 coffee tea hot chocolate lovin kids it would be worth it for us.

As for the Pumpkin Muffins I make them BUT I just do yellow or spice cake mix and mix with 1 small can of pure pumpkin add a touch of cinnamon and DONE, (I dont make the mix per directions) BUT if I am making a fall flavor cake I add the cake mix, the can of pumpkin and the eggs (the pumpkin replaces the oil) pumpkin is really good in chocolate cake mixes too. (you can subsitute the oil with applesauce for white cakes)
WE love us some pumpkin and making the house smell all Fally here……………

    • brittney January 16, 2013 at 5:32 pm #

I know this is old now but all well. I did get a keurig the mini brewer. Love it. You can buy the k cups snd use the same 1 twice for 2 6oz cups. Or buy the lil thing that u put your own loose coffee in or on amazon you can buy empty k cups n lids fill will ur own coffee snd have homemade kcups. Super cheap.

      • angela January 17, 2013 at 4:15 pm #

        Hi Brittney!
I broke down and bought a mini too!! I love it and am sooooooooooo enjoying! It’s like a little way to treat myself! I think I will buy that little thing that you can put your own coffee in!
        Thanks so much!
