Should I steal?

Nester and I leave tomorrow bright and early for The Becoming Conference.  I am so happy my dear friend will be with me.  I am soooooooo excited but sooooo nervous.  Have I mentioned that I’m nervous?  Have I mentioned that I failed one class in college and it was public speaking!?!?  Even though I have enough butterflies to stock a super gigantic butterfly garden, I am really excited to talk about creative Inspiration and show off some easy trash to treasure projects.

Speaking of trash to treasure….. Since I’m speaking I really wanted to run to Anthropologie and buy a really pretty funky dress to wear to the conference.  I figured this dress would make me feel better when I forget what I am suppose to say, faint on stage, or embarrass myself and my small children.  Yeah, I haven’t lost any sleep this week at all.  I wanted a new dress but I didn’t want to spend lots of money.  If I’m going to spend money its going to be at Goodwill, Metrolina, or some fabric store.

Instead of hitting the mall, I went to Goodwill instead.  I found this new dress with tags still on it for $4.99.  It’s really plain and lacks color, but I thought maybe I could take it home and add a few of my own little Anthropologieish touches.

I bought these two scarves at a yard sale for .25 each.  I’m not really a scarf girl but I couldn’t pass up on the polka dots.  These two scarves where the inspiration behind my dress transformation!  Since it’s fall I decided to go with the brown polka dot scarf.

Luckily I just received a bag of goodies from a dear friend that was cleaning out her house.  That’s my kind of junk!

I searched for buttons that were the same color as the brown in the scarf.

Everything looks better with pom poms!

Yes.  I am hot gluing the rosettes directly onto the dress.  If it doesn’t hold up in the wash I’m out $5.00 bucks.  At least I will get a couple of wears out of it, and then I can use the fabric for something else!

I bought these jeans at a yard sale last summer for $2.00.  I didn’t realize there was a  huge hole right next to my girlie parts.

I hot glued these patches all over to hide some of the holes and they have held up great!

I needed a little yellow in the scarf so I top stitched around the scarf a couple fo times with yellow thread that matched the pom poms.

So what do you think?!?  Should I wear this dress to Becoming or run out to Anthropologie today and steal one!?

Adorable! I love your blog and am fairly new to it. I think I found you through Nester. I pray that God gives you the words to say at Becoming and that He takes away all your fears.

    God bless!

    • angela September 20, 2012 at 4:22 pm #

Genius! Someone who can pull off that dress design will be able to speak with no problems whatsoever. Just remember, you are going to be in front of people who are interested in what you have to say and you are speaking about things you love to do and are so good at. I’m looking forward to hearing you – and seeing this great dress.

love the dress, but you’d look adorable in a trashbag. WEAR THE DRESS and save the $150 for 2000 new projects you’ll think of next time you hit a garage sale. Anthropology wishes it had your creativity : ) Know you’ll rock the speaking engagement and have a great time this weekend.

    • angela September 20, 2012 at 4:20 pm #

Thank you Dawn for your encouraging words as always. Will you please go with me and hold my hand!?!?! Great to see you yesterday and thank you for all my goodies! LOVEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Like everything you create, the dress is adorable!! So wish I could go to the conference….maybe one day y’all will come to Atlanta! I hate public speaking, too – one of my favorite verses is Psalm 94:19: When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought joy to my soul. Praying He will turn all your anxiety into JOY!!

  23. caroline September 21, 2012 at 1:35 pm #
