I kinda feel like an old man, sitting on a mountain top, deep in thought doing a yoga pose.

This is my happy place.

I spend most of my free time in this room.  I read in this room, I pray in this room, and I create in this room.  Sometimes I just sit and think and stare off into space in this room.  I think everyone needs a place to call their own.  It doesn’t have to be a whole room devoted to your passion, even a corner in the kitchen would do.  In our last house my happy place was in a closet.  It was big enough for a small desk, a few inspirations photos, and a couple meaningful objects that inspired and encouraged me.  I had a few stacks of fabric on the shelf and my sewing machine was always set up and ready to go.  I would just open the doors and pull up a chair.  If you have a place to keep your work, whatever it is, set up, and ready for you at anytime, you are more likely to create and pursue your passion.  If I had to pull out and set up my sewing machine everytime I wanted to sew something, I’d probably put off a lot of projects.

Over the past couple of weeks I have completely redesigned this space and I can not wait to show you!!!!  It’s calm, peaceful, organized, and has a lot less color and stuff.  I feel like it kind of reflects where I am in my life.  Less chaos.  I am more peaceful, content, and quiet lately.  More of a listener then a talker.  Taking my time instead of hurrying on to the next thing.  Taking things in instead of being preoccupied.  I’m not in a hurry at the grocery store, I’m not getting ticked off when someone pulls out in front of me, and I’m watching all that is going on around me.  I feel less like a spazz.  My brother says I’m maturing!  hahaha!  I don’t know about that, but I feel like for the first time in a long time I am able to breath.  I kinda feel like an old man sitting on a mountain top, deep in thought doing a yoga pose. Weird.   Anywho, my home is reflecting what is going on inside of me.

The first change I made in my happy place was getting rid of the green $5.00 yard sale bookcase.  When I pulled it out of the room, I decided I couldn’t part with it and all of a sudden I had the perfect place for it!!

DSC03242I love the green bookcase in my living room.  A cozy place to sit and have a cup of coffee and flip though some of my favorite books.

Everything displayed in the bookshelf came from other parts of the house.

I wanted to use these two little paintings, but I didn’t want to hang them, I wanted them to stand on their own.  This is my little get it done trick….  It’s not the right way or the correct way, but it’s a way to do it so that you don’t have to put it off until your next trip to Lowe’s to get the correct mounting stuff.

Ok this totally cracks me up.  I actually took time out of my day to label this can.  What a dork.

The previous get it done trick…….hot glue gun, a couple of pins and ready to hang!

Current get it done trick…..play dough, popsicle sticks snapped in half, and these little paintings are ready to stand on their own!

Everything is looking good over there! Can’t wait to see the re-do of your happy place. I came back from becoming so inspired, I especially took in a lot that Barbara Hemphill said. I now have a clearer understanding of why I have started hanging on to so much stuff. While cleaning out my closet yesterday, I kept repeating, love it or lose it. I am beginning to clear the clutter, and settle things down a bit over here. Looking forward to seeing more of your changes.

I’m so sad I missed her speaking!! I heard she was so awesome! Love it or lose it, I like that! I think once the kids are back in school I am going to do a major overhaul clean out donate or sell type of thing. Each time I get rid of something I feel lighter! The trick is not bringing anything else in to replace it!

I think it is the play dough that did it for me!! You can sophisticate my style, says My blog read of the day, Miss Button….
big Brother But-on In is his name and he says Oh Miss Button, you’re growing up!!! We will have the family over next Friday eve in fact every Friday eve now that you’ve grown so classy…to which Miss Button shyly smiles in her new quiet way. The party, the home…everyone ooooos and awwwwws and ooooohs at the sophisticated decor. As all the guests were leaving and Big Brother But-in awaits his queen, he roams aimlessly picking up a small painting in the grandly decorated bookshelf in the livingroom. Oh he sees the broken Popsicle stick. He and his kids helped eat them a few summers back and he washed them in bleach. Ah-ha!!! There is…he touches, breaks off a bit, examines, and realizes his kid sis is still the same after all ! Relief floods his heart. Play dough. Such a simple item but it spoke volumes. His partner in crime, his du to his duo had not completely turned on him. The hidden playDough frame prop in the bookshelf, which he carefully replaced just as his queen glided into the room, gave him such joy he even hugged his sis Miss Button on the way out. Oh by the way, he said over his shoulder, My favorite are the small frames on the green bookshelves. Mr But-In was off with a wink and miss Button turned with a smile. God IS good, she said, quietly, as she straightened her little pictures in her new old green bookshelf. And strolled to bed happier than she’d been in a long time. The End!!!! I see a novel you need to write. I’d buy it!! For I know the plans I have for you. Plans for good and not disaster. Plans for a hope and a future.

I like the green book case in the living room. Seems it was made for that space. Can’t wait to see your new space. I don’t really have a place like that as I live in a 1400 sq foot home so I have to love it or lose it a lot and I can say it really is freeing to give up some stuff! You are always inspiring and I love your blog.

What cute spaces you have! And the play dough trick – genius! (Visiting from The Nesting Place today and happy I did).
